HOW TO ADVANCE YOUR YOGA PRACTICE
Have you ever felt like you don’t know how to advance your yoga practice any further?
In today’s blog post I’m sharing THE MOST pivotal way you can focus on your yoga mat to deepen your practice.
An Ode to Maintenance Mode
Have you ever felt like you don’t know how to advance your yoga practice any further? Maybe you feel stuck in a rut, or are struggling with comparisonitis every time you go on the ‘Gram. If you are feeling bored or directionless on your yoga mat and it’s stopping you practicing, you need to invite Maintenance Mode into your practice!
There’s no part of a ‘maintenance mode’ practice that sounds sexy or flashy, but the truth is this is the heart of our practice. Scheduling a few maintenance mode practices a week is essential if you want to advance your yoga practice or learn skills like inversions and arm balances.
Maintenance mode practices are simple, but yield dramatic results. They don’t require your imagination or creativity. All you need to bring to your mat is yourself – and a plan. Keep scrolling to find out how to advance your yoga practice in the way you need it the most.

Create Your Own Maintenance Mode!
Maintenance mode requires you to practice the things that do not come easily. Funnily enough, these also tend to be the practices or poses that we avoid the most – and therefore the things that are holding us back from advancing our practice!
Keep Going – It’s Worth It!
I don’t know about you, but I get a lot of resistance to maintenance mode. I’d much rather practice the postures that come easily to me – that’s way more fun! That said, over the years I’ve learned that the poses that were once my Achilles heel actually become some of my favourites once I’ve taken the time to understand and practice them. I’m looking at you, half moon pose!
Maintenance mode practices taught me the value of doing hard things, and how to show up even when I had every excuse about why I should leave it until tomorrow. If I hadn’t committed to incorporating this type of practice, I would not have been able to advance my yoga practice in the way that I have.
So here’s an ode to maintenance mode! You may not look or sound sexy or flashy, but you’ve helped me radically transform my asana practice and my mindset.
I hope this blog post resonated with you! Are you going to try out your own maintenance mode practice at home?
