Over the course of the last three weekends (every Saturday 2-4pm) I met with a lovely group of yogis who all wanted to build a sustainable home yoga practice. This was the beginning of my Cultivate A Home Yoga Practice workshop offerings. Every student had their own reasons for wanting to start yoga at home. Equally, each had their own barriers that were stopping them from achieving this on their own. We all have reasons why we can’t start a new routine – whether it’s not enough time, effort, exhaustion, lack of space etc. These workshops gave the students an opportunity to explore ways to overcome their personal struggles. They learned how to shift their perspective into one of openness and possibility, rather than simply “I can’t do it”.
It can be really easy to start something new, but how do you make it stick? How do you incorporate something new into your routine, in a way that makes it as automatic and essential as brushing your teeth? By making this a workshop series rather than a one-off event, we got to investigate the concept of ritualising something new – and making it last. And through meeting weekly, everyone kept each other accountable.
We didn’t just talk. I got to guide them through different styles of yoga – from gentle vinyasa to full on power, to Yoga Nidra and (of course) lots of meditation. It was such a joy to work with each and every one of the attendees, and I am so grateful to everyone who came. THANK YOU! Whether you attended all three workshops or were only able to come to one, I really appreciate the time and energy you gave! We really did create a mini kula, and that’s why it’s my pleasure to say…
New Offerings
I’m creating a new class: Home Practice Drop In // Accountability Catch-up Sessions! This will be held approximately every 6 weeks, and is open to everyone interested in doing more yoga at home, not just workshop attendees. We will flow through some asana, keep each other accountable (nobody wants to turn up and admit they haven’t done any yoga since the last catch-up session!) and discuss what’s been going on in their practice. Dates will be announced soon, but the first is likely to be in early December. Get in touch if you are interested and I’ll add you to the mailing list.
I will also be running the workshop series again in 2018. This is a perfect opportunity to learn how to cultivate your home yoga practice in a supportive and welcoming environment. Watch this space…
