What self care really looks like – and how to shift out of your (uncomfortable) Comfort Zone for good!
I wanted to share this vlog I created last week with you guys. It’s all what self care really looks like. Self care is something I’m really passionate about, and I’ve learned that we need to challenge ourselves to support ourselves best, as well as the usual self care stereotypes of napping and painting our nails etc (if you’re that way inclined).
If you want to stay up to date with my YouTube channel you can subscribe here (you get video updates – and I’ll appreciate it forever!).
I also wrote a little bit below on the same topic, just in case you can’t watch a video for whatever reason. Originally posted on my Instagram.
Short/text version
This is a caption from an Instagram post I wrote a week or so ago.
Do something every day that scares the hell out of you! With my coaching clients, I often discuss comfort zones. I think self care practices and learning to support ourselves should be one of the main pillars in our lives. But I’m sure you’ve probably heard enough about self care in the media (social or otherwise) by now! One of my favourite yoga teachers Francesca Cervero talks about DEEPENING your well in addition to FILLING it.
I absolutely adore this concept, and challenge my clients to think about it all the time. Let me explain some more:
FILLING your well = supportive, restorative, nourishing practices that help you feel cared for
Examples : Bubble baths, reading a book, Yin yoga, saying no to that social commitment that you really don’t want to go to, taking rest.
How I fill my well : Meditation, naps, paying attention to and honouring my energy levels, gentle breathing. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
DEEPENING your well = challenging practices that get you out of your comfort zone and help you grow as an individual
Examples : studying a new course, attending a workshop on a subject you know nothing about, journaling, saying YES to that social commitment even if it scares you.
How I deepen my well: Meditation, saying yes to new challenges, studying anatomy, signing up for a course with my dream mentor.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
How can we apply this to our lives?
See how the two go hand in hand? By DEEPENING our well we give ourselves the resources to grow and learn and expand! But we also need to FILL our well to ensure we feel supported and healthy (and far from burnout). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I find we often spend too much of our lives in one camp or the other. We either play it safe all the time and never grow to our full potential … or we constantly burn the candle at both ends and wonder why we burn out.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So let me ask YOU this:
What can you do to FILL your well? How can you support yourself further?
What can you do to DEEPEN your well? How can you grow to your full potential?
Want more support? I’d love to help. Please get in touch to chat, or check out my coaching services you’d like to work with me.
